Small Ruminant FAQ

What diseases should my sheep and goats be vaccinated against?

We recommend that all sheep and goats be vaccinated against Tetanus and Clostridium perfringens Type C & D.  Pregnant animals should be vaccinated against Campylobacter fetus and possibly Chlamydia psittaci.

When should I deworm my sheep and goats?

Sheep should be dewormed at least twice a year using a rotational protocol.  Goats encounter more resistance issues with intestinal parasites, so please call us for our recommendations.

When should I shear my sheep?

We recommend shearing your sheep prior to lambing and/or before the summer months arrive.

Should I do anything different for my pregnant ewes and does?

Before lambing or kidding, we suggest feeding molasses approximately one month prior to parturition.  Please call us with any questions or further recommendations.
